In the Beginning, God
January 1
Verse: "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1
Before the first sunrise, before the sound of wind rushing through the trees, there was God. The opening line of Scripture is both profound and simple: God created. It’s not just a statement about the origins of the universe. It’s a declaration of purpose and rhythm. God created the heavens and the earth, and in doing so, He gave us the gift of time.
Creation wasn’t random or chaotic. It unfolded in a sacred rhythm: light and dark, evening and morning, day after day. Each day mattered and had its purpose in the bigger picture of His design. Genesis 1 is a reminder that time is a gift, designed by God, and every day is holy.
The psalmist captures this reality when he writes, "Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures... teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom," (Psalm 90:10, 12). As you enter a new year, there is a new beginning. Out of all people who have ever lived, God saw fit that you would be alive right now. This year is not an accident; it is a gift. Step into it with purpose, faith, and expectancy, knowing that everyday carries meaning in the hands of the One who created it.
A Truth to Hold Onto
Before anything else, there was God. He is the starting point, the Center, and the Sustainer of all things.
A Question to Ponder
What does it mean to trust that God intentionally created this day for you?
