Couples Counseling

Relationships can be challenging, and even the strongest couples may face difficulties. Our counselors work with couples to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and deepen their connection. We offer guidance grounded in Christian values to help you build a healthy, fulfilling relationship.

Family Counseling

Families are the cornerstone of our communities, but they can also experience stress and conflict. Our family counseling services aim to foster understanding, respect, and unity within your family. We address various issues, including parenting challenges, sibling relationships, and family dynamics, through a faith-based lens.

Meet Dr. Steve Abbott

Meet Dr. Steve Abbott

Dr. Abbott has dedicated his life to helping others navigate tough times. A Gulf Shores resident since 2014, he made it his permanent home in 2022. With 20 years in the USAF and advanced degrees in counseling and theology, he brings a wealth of experience to Shores Counseling Center. More than his credentials, Dr. Abbott’s passion lies in connecting with people, hearing their stories, and helping them move forward. Outside of work, he enjoys the Gulf Shores community through painting, cycling, camping, and spending time with family.

Meet Dr. Joyce Woodburn

Meet Dr. Joyce Woodburn

Dr. Joyce Woodburn has spent over 30 years walking with people through the highs and lows of life, offering wisdom, care, and steady guidance. A Foley resident, she served as the Dean of the School of Education at the University of Mobile, helping shape the next generation of teachers and leaders. But more than titles or achievements, she is a lifelong learner who finds deep joy in her family, three daughters, nine grandchildren, and in helping people navigate the challenges of life with grace and hope.

Shores Counseling Center is located at 541 Cotton Creek Drive in Gulf Shores, AL. When you drive into the parking lot of Church at the Shores you will see a sign at the end of our building with our name. The counseling center is located directly behind the sign.

We are currently offering our counseling services free of charge to our church family and the surrounding community. If you’d like to support this effort, we encourage you to consider making a donation to the general fund of Church at the Shores by clicking the link below.

All sessions are currently in person and last one hour. You can easily book a session with Dr. Abbott using the link below. If you need to cancel, we ask that you do so at least 24 hours in advance. Please ensure you arrive on time for your scheduled session.
